Patricia Crawford called the meeting to order at 10:00 am. 

 

Roll Call

There were 12 members and one guest in attendance.

 

Minutes

Minutes of the 1-22-07 meeting were presented for approval. Name spelling corrections were made.

Treasurer’s Report

Susan Chapman presented the new format for a Budget/Financial Statement. There was discussion

related to the RHA TA Grant - the budget line item training and education – this $4,260 represents

a total of RHA TA carry-over $1,280 and Activity 4 – New membership dues were 28 (Sandra

Pope)

Rural Health Policy Advocacy Training

Patricia Crawford presented the evaluation results from the Rural Health Policy Advocacy Training February 6, 2007. Total attendance was 61, excluding staff (37 non-members and 33 WVRHA members.) Attendees will receive follow-up information on WVRHA membership. The invoice of $787.66 for Alan Morgan’s services was approved and sent to the WVPCA. The Marriott’s preliminary bill is $2,267.62.

SHEC Conference Update

Lew Holloway reported. There did not appear to be a strong consensus for the WVRHA sponsoring a speaker due to the lack of current similar areas of the two organizations. The WVRHA is interested in exhibiting at the conference.

 

New Business:

 

 

NRHA Policy Institute

Norma Bowyer, Louise Reese, Melissa Wheeler, Sally Richardson, Nancy Melton, Sandra Pope,

Hilda Heady and Patricia Crawford will attend the NRHA Policy Institute February 26-28 in

Washington, D.C. Board members shared comments on this event.

 

WVRHA BOD Strategic Planning Meeting

On March 26, 2007, the board will meet at the Braxton Learning Resource Center to discuss the

WVRHA Strategic Plan. Signed job descriptions are needed from every WVRHA board member.

 

Committee Updates:

President Patricia Crawford provided information about the committees and encouraged all board

members to be on one or two committees. All committees are encouraged to have a meeting

or conference call prior to the March 26, 2007 board meeting.

 

Policy

After much discussion, it was agreed that there be co-chairs of the Policy Committee. Sally

Richardson recommended Hilda Heady and Hilda agreed to serve. Policy Committee members

include Lew Holloway, Sara Jane Gainor, Patricia Crawford, Phil Schenk, Michael Thompson,

Norma Bowyer, Charlotte Flanagan, Mary Fitzgerald, and Nancy Tonkin.

No update.

Membership

April Vestal is the 2007 chair and committee members include Sara Jane Gainor, Sandra Pope, Jeff

Graham, Amber Crist, Carmella Walker, and Patricia Crawford.

Update - There is a total of 100 voting members, including 85 individual, 5 organizational

memberships, and student membership.

 

By-laws

Sara Jane Gainor is the 2007 chair and committee members include Jeff Graham and Patricia

Crawford.

 

Communications

Alicia Tyler is the 2007 chair and committee members include Sharon Giles, April Vestal, Dr.

Shaik, Lew Holloway, Elaine Bowen, Patricia Crawford, Haylee Heinsberg, and Dave Brown.

Update - The committee will meet to determine dates for the Strategic Plan. A newsletter article

was submitted to OCHS for a proposed publication. Alan Morgan was given approval to post his

presentation on the WVRHA web site. Additional updates are completed.

 

Fundraising

Phil Schenk is the 2007 chair and committee members include Lisa Scarberry, Susan Chapman,

Patricia Crawford, Dr. Shaik, and Jeff Graham. Dr. Shaik will forward any opportunities to this

committee.

Update – Committee will meet soon to plan the WVRHC silent auction.

 

Nominating

Sara Jane Gainor is the 2007 chair. Committee members by virtue of being past or current

president are Sandra Pope, April Vestal, and Patricia Crawford.

No update.

 

WV Rural Health Conference

The first planning meeting was February 2, 2007. Bids were conducted by the Office of

Community Health Systems for conference location.  Committee selected Glade Springs Resort

outside Beckley, WV. Conference chair nominations were solicited, and Jennifer Plymale and Dick

Meckstroth were mentioned. Sara Jane Gainor, April Vestal, and Patricia Crawford represent the

WVRHA on the 2007 conference planning committee.

 

Other Business:

Hilda Heady noted that Sally Richardson received an award for community leadership from the Charleston YWCA.  All gave congratulations to her.
