Treasurer’s Report |
Patricia Crawford reported a current bank balance of
$16,449.63. There are outstanding obligations, including reimbursements for printer supplies
to AHEC program office, the WV Tax
Department, Sara Jane Gainor (board gifts,) and Derek Day (website maintenance.) |

Board Orientation |

Past President Sara
Jane Gainor gave an overview of 2006 major accomplishments:

Patti Crawford will
send an orientation packet to board members. This will include the by- laws, committee information, a job
description, NRHA Technical Assistance application, and Sara Jane Gainor’s overview. ·
Please note the NRHA Skill
Building Workshop is June 14-15, 2007 in New Orleans. |

Election of Officers |
Patricia Crawford opened
the meeting for nominations for Secretary, Treasurer, and President-Elect.
These would be one-year terms. The WVRHA by-laws allow anyone to serve as an
officer and do not stipulate that an officer have been on the board any
length of time. Elaine Bowen was elected as
Secretary. Susan Chapman was elected Treasurer. However, the position of President-Elect
was not filled and needs to be secured at the next board meeting. |

Rural Health Policy Advocacy Training |
The Rural Health Policy
Advocacy Training is February 6, 2007 at 10:30-3:00 pm at Charleston Marriott
Town Center. Alan Morgan is the presenter.
There is a maximum attendance of 75.

Rural Health Day at Legislature |
Rural Health Day at the
Legislature is February 5, 2007. There will be joint
displays from WVAHEC/WVRHEP centers and consortia as well as a CARDIAC
screening for legislators. Patti
would like to have WVRHA display setup with membership applications and
flyers for Rural Policy Training on February 6. |

NRHA Policy Institute |
The NRHA Policy Institute is February 26-28, 2007 in
Washington, DC. The hotel deadline is 1/22/07 and early bird registration is
2/1/07. Cost is $395 for members and
$695 for non-members. Patricia Crawford will coordinate the hill visits.
Hilda Heady, Sandra Pope, and Norma Bowyer will attend. NRHA will inform Patti
of others from WV who are registered. Patti did not realize State Association
Council (SAC) meeting would be scheduled for 8 am on Sunday February 25. Norma Bowyer volunteered to help Patti. Norma Bowyer
will attend the Sunday 8:00 am SAC meeting and Patti will try to adjust her
travel schedule to be there as well. Hilda Heady suggested we have a 1-page
brief to present to legislators. |

NRHA TA Application |
Patricia Crawford mentioned the application. It will
be in the board packet. Please review it. |

New Committee Chairs & Updates: |
Patricia Crawford asked board members to review
committee information in their packet. It includes a job description for WVRHA Board of
Directors. She stressed the importance of members actively participating and serving on
at least one committee. After reviewing the job description, sign and mail, fax or email to Patricia
Crawford. |

Policy |
Sally Richardson
will serve as 2007 chair. Nancy Tonkin will also serve on the committee. |

|
Membership |
April Vestal will
serve as 2007 chair. |
|
|
By-laws |
Sara Jane Gainor
will serve as 2007 chair. No changes were made in the by-laws last year. |
|

Communications |
Alicia Tyler will serve as 2007 chair. Alicia Tyler
reported that she and Sharon Giles reviewed the website. There is a need for website content
management (so information can be added without having to go through Derrick Day.) Susan Chapman has
information on this and will forward to Alicia. |

Fundraising |
Phil Schenk will continue to serve as chair. He
asked the board for guidance on specific fundraising needs. They plan to have a Silent
Auction at the October WV Rural Health Conference, with a goal of $2,500-3,000. |

Nominating |
Sara Jane Gainor will serve as 2007 chair. |

that the March 26 meeting focus on strategic planning. |

contact Sally Richardson about progress on the forums. |

State Health Education Council of WV Annual
Conference |
Lew Holloway reported on
the SHEC Conference April 30-May 2, 2007 at the Morgantown Waterfront Place. SHEC
is securing speakers and sessions related to tobacco, healthy living, and
asthma tracks. WVRHA wants to sponsor a speaker (e.g., paying speaker
expenses – no specific dollar amount has been discussed.) We need to decide
on topic and speaker and let them know (SHEC committee has a conference call
2/22.) There was discussion about asthma (World Asthma Day is May 1st.)
Lew Holloway will pull together an ad hoc committee to make a decision about
the SHEC speaker sponsorship. |
