Elaine Bowen called= roll. There were ten members and one guest in attendance.

Minutes of the 8-24= -06 meeting were presented for approval.

Treasurer’s Report=

  • Sharon Giles presented the report. There = was a balance of $ 16,926.63 for 9/25/06 Several bills have been received (e.g. printing WVRH Conference insert, sponsorship for WVRH Conferen= ce) and one new individual membership was noted.
  • S= haron will call a Financial Committee meeting.=
  • S= haron has organized the financial records to g= ive them to the Primary Care Association.
  • Reimbursements and stipends for the NRHA = Skill Building Workshop are still outstanding; Sharon will work on this.

Rural Health Confer= ence

·     &nbs= p; Sandra Pope reported that $1,500 was spent on a ½ page ad and exhibit space.

·     &nbs= p; Some conference schedule changes were made. Se= nator Rockefeller speaks Friday 1-3 pm.

·     &nbs= p; The Board will meet Tuesday prior to the confe= rence at 5:00-7:30 pm at Stonewall Resort.

·     &nbs= p; April Vestal and Sharon Giles will work on a giveaway to go with the exhibit (imprinted M&Ms or apples.)

·     &nbs= p; Lodging rates are:  Tuesday conference rate and Frid= ay $179.

·     &nbs= p; Moderators will be notified soon. <= /span>

 

Rural Health Issues= Meeting

  • Plans have begun for a series of four com= munity forums. The goal is to gather broad input that leads to recommendati= ons for legislative impact.
  • A meeting Tuesday, September 19, 2006 inv= olved 24 from various organizations. Members discussed the meeting. It was productive and seemed to garner support. Six priority issues were selected. See attached notes.
  • Sally Richardson presented a proposal fro= m the WVU Institute for Health Policy Research for the tasks and costs of conducting the community forums.
  • It was recommended that the Policy Commit= tee create a Request for Proposals.
  • It may be possible to solicit sponsorship= to help with costs for the sessions. Susan Griffith Chapman will contact Benedum to explore their interest in supporting these.
  • Susan Griffith Chapman suggested that the information (process, format, organization, etc.) from recent EMS public meetings may be useful as guidanc= e.
  • A final report on the forums will set the agenda for a larger statewide meeting.

WVU Job Fair

  • Communication from Elaine Mason requested= our sponsorship of the WVU Job Fair on November 2, 2006 from 10 am-2 pm = at WVU Health Sciences.
  • WVRHA will provide membership brochures a= t the registration table.

  • The WVRHA Membership Meeting is Wednesday, October 25 from 5:15-6:15 pm.
  • Member packets will include the brochure,= community forum information, financial report, and committee accomplishments.<= o:p>
  • Agenda will include a President’s r= eport. Sandra Pope will give an historical overview of WVRHA. Members will = be informed about nomination requirements.

·     &nbs= p; There will be board vacancies to fill in the c= oming year - Sister Fidler, Sara Jane Gainor, Sharon Giles, Al Michaels, Henry Taylor, Dave Sotak, Alicia Tyler, April Vestal.

·     &nbs= p; Nominations will be solicited at the membership meeting October 25. Nominees complete a nomination form. Then, materials = will be sent out to the membership for voting. 

 

 

·     &nbs= p; Sara Jane Gainor proposed that Norma Bowyer fi= ll Henry Taylor’s position.

 

 

 

 

 

 

·     &nbs= p; Sara Jane Gainor proposed that Patty Crawford = fill Al Michaels’ President-Elect position.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·     &nbs= p; The Board discussed the need for an Archives Committee. Sandra Pope was appointed by Sara Jane Gainor.

    Fundraising

  • The Silent Auction is Wednesday, October = 25 from 6:30-7:30 pm.
  • Board members will solicit items for the = Silent Auction. Let Phil Schenk know what you are bringing. Items may be brought to the WVPCA office in Charleston, to Morgantown (call Kim Robinson at 293-4996) or to the conference.
  • Susan Griffith Chapman will bring signs f= or the Silent Auction.
  • Susan Griffith Chapman will check with conference planners about room plans for the Silent Auction items.
  • Sara Jane Gainor and Elaine Bowen will be= sure that the auction items from Morgantown will be transported to the conference.
  • Set up volunteers are Lew Holloway, Sharo= n Giles, Sandra Pope, and April Vestal.

SHEC

  • A decision needs to be made on partnering= with the State Health Education Council on their annual conference April 30-M= ay 2 in Morgantown. One possibility may be to report on the outcomes of the community forums. Lew Holloway will convene a group to explore this and make a recommendation to the Board. The group includes Patty Crawford, April Vestal, and Elaine Bowen. Sharon Giles will provide us with budget information.
